More Than Choreography

One of the things that makes FCBD® Style so special is that it's built around Synchronized Group Improvisation (SGI).

Instead of memorizing choreography, dancers learn a shared vocabulary of movements and visual cues. Think of it as learning a language. As your vocabulary grows, so does your ability to communicate with your fellow dancers.

That shared language allows dancers to follow a leader from anywhere in the formation, creating dances together in real time. Because everyone is speaking the same movement language, dancers who have never met before can often step into the same formation and dance as if they have known each other for years.

Every performance is unique.

Every dancer contributes.

Every dance tells a new story.

As an Official Tamarind Tribal Legacy Studio, we're proud to build on the strong foundation of FCBD® Style while exploring the evolving artistry of Tamarind Tribal. We honor where this dance began while embracing where it's still growing—because we believe tradition and growth belong together.

What the Heck is a HipSlinger?

I'm thrilled you asked!

A HipSlinger is someone who believes dance is about more than memorizing choreography or putting on a beautiful costume. It's about finding your people, trying new things, celebrating progress, and discovering what you're capable of along the way.

You'll notice something else about our name, too.

Why "Project" HipSlingers?

Because we're all a work in progress.

No one here has "arrived." Every class, every workshop, every performance, and every conversation is another opportunity to learn, grow, and become a little more confident than we were yesterday.

Honestly, we hope we never reach a final destination. Because if we did, the journey would be over—and we're having way too much fun enjoying the ride.

Life as a HipSlinger

If you've made it this far, you've probably figured out that Project HipSlingers is about so much more than dance.

It's about finding your people.

It's about discovering that you're capable of more than you imagined.

It's about showing up exactly as you are—and leaving just a little more confident than when you walked in.

Being a HipSlinger looks like workshops and performances.

Road trips and rehearsals.

Big breakthroughs and little victories.

It looks like encouraging one another through the stumbles, celebrating the wins, and occasionally laughing until our eyeliner starts running.

It definitely looks like finding any excuse to wear big jewelry.

It's celebrating the courage it takes to try something new, the friendships that grow along the way, and the moments that remind us why we fell in love with this dance in the first place.

And while we always strive for beautiful dancing...
